Ilkley 0 Baildon Trinity 5

Ilkley were still suffering from a New Year hangover as they crashed to an embarrassing defeat at home to West Yorkshire League Division One strugglers Baildon Trinity Athletic.

From the opening 20 minutes, such a margin of victory would never have been imagined as the teams looked fairly evenly matched. Poor marking from a right wing corner allowed the visitors' centre midfielder, Michael Haran, space at the far post to convert an uncontested header to open the scoring. Baildon went close shortly afterwards following more slack defending at a corner moments later.

The lead was doubled later in the first-half when Lanre Bakare skipped away from two Ilkley defenders and, although Jones managed to get a hand to his low drive, his strike partner, Andrew Radosevic, was quickest to react and scored from the rebound.

Ilkley's most notable contribution of the first-half came when a neat move down the right resulted in Hannaford shooting on the half volley at the near post but the 'keeper was equal to the task as he tipped the ball over the bar.

Ilkley tried in vain to get back into the match after the interval but were hit on the break as Baildon substitute Chris Cookson came off the bench to add a third and put the tie beyond doubt.

As Ilkley desperately chased the game, Baildon were afforded more space in attacking areas and exploited them with two late goals fired in by midfielder Cookson and Radosevic to add to Ilkley's misery.

On the rare occasion where Ilkley managed to string a few consecutive passes together they looked dangerous but these moments were too fleeting and were far outnumbered by the times when opponents runs weren't tracked or tackles were missed.

Ilkley currently sit mid-table in West Yorkshire League's Division One after a very indifferent first half of the season.

The upcoming match, away at local rivals Pool, will hopefully sharpen their focus for the following weekend, where they face Rawdon Old Boys in the twice-postponed quarter-final of the Wharfedale and District FA Cup - Ilkley's last bastion of hope for a fruitful campaign.

Kick-off this weekend is at 2.15pm, players meet at Ilkley Pool at 1pm.
