Campion and Tyersal booked their place in the quarter finals of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup with 4-2 victories.

Campion took on last season's winners Meltham Athletic at Manningham Mills and in a hectic first 20 minutes were twice in the lead.

Only ten minutes had been played when Adie Howard edged Campion ahead. The Huddersfield side were back on level terms within five minutes when Chris Kaye equalised, only for Campion to be gifted back the lead two minutes later with a bizarre own goal. Meltham's James Hanby tried to guide the ball behind for a corner but steered it the wrong side of the post and into his own goal.

Campion's experienced defenders were put under pressure by their visitors but held out and with a Simon Parke strike on the stroke of half-time went into the interval with a two-goal cushion.

Meltham dominated the opening five minutes of the second half and the league's leading scorer Tom Mathews reduced the arrears. With both sides pushing for another goal, it fell to Campion's Chris Graham to score the decider and eliminate the Huddersfield side.

Tyersal, who had beaten two Halifax League sides on their way to the fourth round, continued on their winning ways against Hebden Royd Red Star with first-half strikes from Gavin and Tom Carney. After the break, Graham Sides and Dave Armitage netted.

Golcar United and Bay Athletic both registered 2-0 victories to ensure their places in the last eight.

Golcar beat Yorkshire Old Boys League side Old Centrallians and Bay, with late goals from substitute Freddie McGillvery and Steve Perrin, accounted for Otley Town.

Steeton and Halifax Irish were both beaten by their West Yorkshire League opponents, Steeton going down 5-2 at Sherburn White Rose, while the Irishmen were beaten 3-2 with a last-minute goal at home to Wetherby Athletic.

All the League Three sides still in the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy had comfortable passages into the quarter-final stages.

Tyersal Reserves were taken into extra-time by their hosts Featherstone Colliery Reserves, before strikes by Danny Malarkey and Andy Whitley gave them a 5-3 success. Earlier, Craig Sykes, Jamie McEwen and Mick Bleau had scored to ensure extra-time.

Brighouse Town Reserves enjoyed an easy 7-0 win at Bardsey Reserves, while Westbrook YMCA, who were re-instated in the competition after their opponents in the last round had played a illegal player, beat Huddersfield side Linthwaite 7-0 with Rob Carr notching a hat-trick,

Brighouse Town moved to within a point of Mumtaz Premier Division leaders Bay Athletic after beating visitors Storthes Hall 3-1. Andy Yates with a double, including one from the penalty spot, and Jason Todd scored.

After being two goals behind at half- time at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Wibsey battled back to draw level with goals from Paul Trudge and Chris Hanney. But they were denied a point when the home side were awarded a final-minute penalty which Scott Collins converted to give the Miners a 3-2 victory.

Involvement in the County Cup cost Steeton their joint top place in Division One. Hall Green United, with second- half goals by Tom Marsden and John Moore, beat third-placed Farnley 2-1 and opened up a three-point lead.

A hat-trick from Gavin Birmingham helped Lower Hopton move into second place with a 5-0 home win over Dudley Hill Rangers.

Salts lost 5-1 at Altofts and remain seven points adrift of safety at the foot of the table. South Bradford beat Westwood 4-1.
