Guiseley wreaked their revenge for a 3-0 beating
earlier this season by overcoming a below-par Avenue at Horsfall Stadium.
Gary Brook's side have now gone eight UniBond Premier Division games without a win and are in freefall.
And it was two former Avenue players - Steven Ball and Neil Grayston - along with Tom Marsden, who netted the vital goals, while Curtis Bernard scored for Avenue for the second consecutive game.
Both managers made changes. Neil Parsley dropped an out-of-sorts Simon Parkes and Brook rested Chris Siddall for the first time this season as skipper Dean Jones was brought back in to partner Tom Agus at the heart of the defence.
Niall O'Brien took over the troublesome right back spot and Craig Smith was drafted into midfield alongside Danny Walsh.
There were few chances in a lively start but it was Avenue who could have taken the lead when Bernard slipped the ball through to Liam Flynn, whose shot went straight at keeper Matt Taylor.
Guiseley's impressive centre-back pairing of Danny Ellis and Sam Denton were keeping Bernard and Steve Oleksewycz quiet.
It took a substitution late in the first half to put a spark into the match. Marsden replaced Andy Lee for the visitors and immediately tested Craig Parry after David Henry had gone marauding down the right, but the Avenue stopper made a fine double save.
Then at the other end, a fine long throw into the box almost surprised Guiseley but Oleks-ewycz couldn't quite connect with a close-range volley.
On the stroke of half-time, Marsden gave the visitors the lead when he rifled in a shot from the edge of the box through a crowd of players and into the corner of the net.
Avenue came out for the second half in a determined mood but were well marshalled by the tight Guiseley defence.
Tom Greaves came on to replace Oleksewycz and the young striker was immediately brought down on the edge of the box. Smith's deflected free-kick was well saved low down by Taylor.
Jones was the pick of Avenue's defenders, coping well with David Cooke, and Avenue deservedly got on level terms when Greaves sent Flynn away on the left. His cross was met by Bernard, who guided the ball past Taylor.
Guiseley tried to hit back when Matthew Smithard
swivelled in the Avenue penalty area but saw his shot flash wide.
Avenue looked to be getting on top but Guiseley took the lead again in the 69th minute - very much against the run of play. Parry was in no man's land as a deep cross found Ball and the full back was able to send a looping header into the net.
Marsden should have wrapped up the points when he ran clear and flashed a shot wide.
Avenue brought Damian Dunne on for Smith and could have equalised when Flynn whipped in a cross which Bernard headed over.
Guiseley though were beginning to control play and made sure of their win in the 83rd minute when Parry, for once, left his line to deal with a high ball, only to see his clearance fall at the feet of Grayston. The midfielder volleyed the ball back over the keeper and that was that.
Three more goals conceded and Avenue must now quickly regroup or face being sucked into a relegation battle.
For Guiseley, it was a convincing and very welcome result.
