MENSTON Sensei Julian Tan and his students at the Seishin-Ryu Karate Centre in Baildon are once again celebrating a 100 per cent success rate at the Shukokai Karate Union Black Belt examination in Sheffield.

On Saturday and Sunday, November 12-13, three of Sensei Tan's karate students went through five-six hours of mental and physical endurance for their Black Belt examination held at the English Institute Sports Centre, Sheffield. They were graded by three of the most distinguished SKU chief instructors (ranked 7th and 8th Dans) in England.

All the students graded successfully were - Kristofer Dudley, Black Belt 1st Dan, a 15 year-old, from Baildon who is a pupil of Salt Grammar School; James Hanson, Black Belt 1st Dan, a 14 year-old from Baildon who is also a pupil of Salt Grammar School; Tony Megaw, Black Belt 3rd Dan, a 43 year-old from Baildon who is a programme manager for West Yorkshire Strategic health Authority.

Sensei Tan admits all his students trained exceptionally hard and have shown a lot of commitment and dedication to the art of SKU Karate-Do.

At the SKU National Team Kumite and Premier Kata at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, Seishin-Ryu had some outstanding results.

Team Kumite - 1st, Laura Proctor, Melissa Hargreaves, Carrie Megaw, Girl's 3rd Kyu and above, 12 and 13 years; 1st, Chris-topher Proctor, James Hanson, Kristofer Dudley, Boy's 3rd Kyu and above, 14 and 15 years; 2nd, Chris Dolan, Alex Bowman, Declan Tan Wei Leng, Boy's 3rd Kyu and above, 12 and 13 years.

Kata - 1st, Marcus Tan Wei Heng, Male Black Belts, 16 and 17 years; 1st, Declan Tan Wei Leng, 13-15 years; 2nd, Melissa Tan Swee Ling, Female Black Belts, 16 years and above; 3rd, Carrie Megaw, Female Black Belts, 11 and 12 years; 3rd, Kirsty Normington, Female Brown Belts, 11 and 12 years; 3rd, Con-nor Hodgson, Male 8th and 7th Kyu, 10 years and under; 3rd, Francessca Li, Female 8th and 7th Kyu, 10 years and under.

Sensei Julian Tan came second in the Male Black Belts 40 years and above category and was also second in the Open Shuko-kai/Shitoryu.
