With players running in the New York Marathon and others unavailable, Ring O' Bells Shipley had been given permission to cancel their game in the Alliance this weekend.

But when their FA Sunday Cup tie was put back a week, Bells had no

alternative but to send a scratch side to Liverpool to face last season's semi-finalists Seaburn.

At 2-0 down, the game wasn't lost but Seaburn's strength shone through in the final ten minutes when they added three further goals.

Bells' defeat leaves Queensbury as the only local interest in the cup.

In a limited programme of second-round County Cup games, there were four successes for Alliance clubs in the five games played.

It was expected to be tight and the heavy conditions assured it was in the all-Alliance clash at Queensbury where the home side beat Oakenshaw 2-1.

Neil Jones, who was moved up from Queensbury's second team, put his side in front and they had claims for a second goal which looked to go over the line before being cleared by a defender.

Oakenshaw produced a good 20-minute spell in which they equalised and hit the bar.

Queensbury's winner was a gem - a goal good enough to win any game as Mick Naylor cut in and let fly from 25 yards.

There was a see-saw game at Harold Park where Wyke Wanderers went into extra-time at 3-3 with Claro League visitors Harrogate CFC.

Behind at 4-3, Wyke were able to force an equaliser and, with Adam Beckwith and Craig Sheridan sharing doubles, won the game 5-4 to save a trip to Harrogate and a replay.

There was also extra-time at Albion Sports where the home side had a close game with Thornhill Town.

The Heavy Woollen team gained a 40- minute lead before Taj Singh produced Albion's equaliser after 55 minutes.

It was Albion's all-time leading scorer who brought about the goods in extra- time when his second goal earned Albion's passage into round three.

In a delayed kick-off at Merlin's, Eccleshill Sunday went ahead from Andy Philp two minutes into the game and never looked back, giving the Leeds side a 9-4 hammering.

Ben Hardy finished top scorer with three of the goals.

After dominating most of the second half, Wibsey WMC were denied a late penalty, a decision that could have put the game into extra-time, and went out 4-3 at Vespa Gate.

A nightmare quarter-hour spell when they went from 1-1 to 4-1 down proved costly for the working men's club.

To highlight a good day for Albion Sports, their reserve side won 1-0 at Ripon in the County Trophy.

With Eccleshill in cup action, Bishop Rovers took the opportunity to go top in Division 1A with a resounding 5-0 win over strugglers Quarry.

In front from a 25-yard free-kick by Ebad Rashid, Zahid Younis rounded

the keeper for a second and the enterprising Tabrez Aktar added a third before the interval.

Younis' second soon after half-time and a goal from Navid Saddique completed the scoring.

Youngster Nathan Barraclough scored for QCs, who were overrun in the

second half by Ventus Sports as they ran out 4-1 winners.

In Division 1B, Chellow Reserves' up- and-down season continued after a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Craven Heifer in a game well refereed by Craven

manager Dixie Dakin, after the official failed to appear.
