PARISH councillors past and present have gathered in Arthington to bid farewell to clerk Tom Kennedy.

Mr Kennedy was seen off at his final parish meeting after two decades of service by a

surprise gathering of former councillors.

He was also presented by Parish Council chairman councillor Basil Thompson with a framed picture showing a view across the valley from Arthington, created by local artist 'Griff'.

Previous parish clerk Selwyn Pennington was amongst other Arthington residents who also turned out to witness the presentation.

Longest serving parish councillor Clive Fox, paying tribute to Mr Kennedy's 20 years service, described his "quiet efficiency" and dedication to the job.

Coun Fox added that it was a tribute to the high esteem in which Mr Kennedy was held that every available former Arthing-ton parish councillor was there to wish him well.

The event was also the first meeting for the new clerk, Arthington resident Caroline Waites, who is married with two young children and is already involved with the Pool Mums & Tots Group and the Pool Village Hall committee.
