Guiseley 0

Bradford Park Avenue 3

Avenue won this match by virtue of some clinical finishing whilst Guiseley created a host of chances, especially in the first 20 minutes, but couldn't get past Craig Parry in the Bradford goal.

The former England U-19 'keeper pulled off a string of excellent saves as Guiseley peppered his goal. The closest they came was when Matty Smithard's shot hit the inside of the post and bounced out.

Guiseley began in rampant fashion with the confidence of a 2-0 win at Gateshead under their belts. An almighty scramble in the six yard box saw Simon Parke, Roy Stamer and Dave Henry have shots blocked in rapid succession. Smithard then hit the post and Parry saved fierce shots from Parke and Stamer. Damien Dunne forced Guiseley's Matt Taylor to save his hooked shot at full stretch and Dean

Calcutt went close but it was Greaves who opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time after being left unmarked at the far post.

Dean Jones doubled Avenue's lead on 51 minutes, taking advantage of a ball that ricocheted off the defensive wall to beat Taylor.

Sam Denton directed a header just the wrong side of the post and Simon Parke had two glorious chances but couldn't apply the finishing touch to either.

With the Avenue fans in the 475 strong crowd urging their side on Greaves grabbed his second as time ran down to seal a win by a margin that perhaps flattered them.

It certainly left Guiseley ruing their missed opportunities in an entertaining encounter that flowed from end-to-end and was played at a frenetic pace throughout. The Guiseley crowd left disappointed and hoping for better things when they take on Chorley on Saturday in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

This game, which kicks-off at Nethermoor Park at 3 pm, is vital to the club's finances being the only channel left to them for boosting their income after losing out in the FA Cup.

Manager Neil Parsley has to get his men in the frame of mind that they can win at home. Their best form seems to have been saved for away games and with the manager praising recent surfaces at Wakefield -Emley and Gateshead - where full time groundsmen are employed - he has to get his men to believe that they can perform on the home surface. After all it is the same for both sides.

They certainly showed good attacking skills against Avenue without applying the final touch, it was their defensive frailties that let them down.
