Queensbury crushed Batley Victoria 36-6 to storm into the fourth round of the Tetley's Yorkshire County Cup.

Bury set off at a pace their opponents could not keep up with and swept into a 20-point lead after half an hour.

The Queensbury three quarters had a field day and revealed far too much speed and class for the visitors.

Centres Trevor Stead and Gareth Hobson were a continual problem for the Batley defence and picked up two tries apiece.

Second row Kristian Freibach also proved difficult to handle with some rampaging runs and also

collected a brace.

Not to be outdone, winger Luke Brearcliffe popped up to cross the whitewash, while scrum half Johnny Feather completed a successful afternoon's work for Bury by adding four goals.

Bury's reward is a mouthwatering tie at title rivals Westgate Redoubt - but Clayton were unable to join their Bradford rivals in round four as they went down 20-12 in a close-fought contest at Embassy.

Clayton never recovered from a first half which saw them trail the Hull side 14-0 at the break.

Their fighting spirit was there to be seen again in the second half as they took the game to Embassy.

Clayton were duly rewarded with tries to forward John Parkinson and Liam Chadwick, who was making his debut.

With no less than four of last year's under-16 team taking the field, coach Richard Heseltine had something positive to take away and plan for next year's campaign.

Victoria Rangers suffered a setback to their Pennine League promotion aspirations when they were beaten 14-8 by fierce Division One rivals West Bowling A.

In a typical derby game, Vics fell into the trap of playing too much down the middle, a mistake Bowling forward Lee Hutchison continually capitalised on.

Vics centre Damian Smith dived over for a first-half try and winger Leonard Dalliday helped himself to a penalty goal and a conversion.

But it was Bowling who turned round with the advantage as they led 12-8 at the interval.

In the second half Vics continually tried to keep the ball alive but were often guilty of forcing the pass at the wrong time.

With Bowling forward Jon Hellewell big in defence, the clock eventually ran out for Rangers and Bowling gained revenge for a recent mauling at the hands of their local rivals.

Hutchison collected the man of the match award, while second row Dave Newhall was the pick for Vics.

Another fierce local derby saw Birkenshaw edge out visitors Dudley Hill 28-24.

In an end-to-end encounter, Dudley Hill took the lead before Birky stormed back as first winger

James Ignaciuk touched down in the corner and then forward Ben Cousen took a lovely inside ball before crashing over.

Matt Honeysett was successful with one conversion to give his side a slender lead, although Hill struck back to see them level at half-time 10-10.

In the second half Andy Hirst made the difference for the home side as he ghosted over for a four-pointer.

Hirst then found prop Luke Menzies on the charge with a neat pass and he dived under the posts.

Hill did not give up and kept themselves in the game but when hooker John Turpin sneaked over next to the posts, the game was all but over.

Honeysett picked up three conversions to add to his tally to see Birky collect two welcome points.
