Ilkley thespian John Mogridge has died at the age of 58.
He performed with the Ilkley and Skipton Amateur Operatic Societies from 1969 to 1991.
His brother, Geoffrey, said: "John was blessed with a rich bass-baritone voice and a handsome stage presence. He will be remembered with pleasure."
In the Ilkley Amateurs production of the Pirates of Penzance, John played the role of the swashbuckling Pirate King opposite his future wife, Shivaun.
His other Ilkley performances included Wild Bill Hickock in Calamity Jane, and Carlo in The Maid of the Mountains.
In Magyar Melody, John played the lead role of the composer Michael alongside his mother Eileen as his stage aunt, the Empress.
John's many roles with Skipton Amateurs included Johann Strauss the younger in Waltzes From Vienna, Archibald Grosvenor in Patience, the title role in the Mikado and Pluto in Orpheus in the Underworld.
His final stage performance was in Skipton's production of Merrie England in 1991.
John, a painter and decorator, also enjoyed angling and studying wildlife.
He suffered from mesthelioma (asbestos related cancer) and retired last year when his condition worsened.
John is survived by his wife Shivaun, daughter Karen, grand-daughter Beezie; his mother Eileen and brothers, Peter and Geoffrey.
