Yorkshire's cricket committee have withdrawn left-arm spin bowler Richard Stemp from the club's pre-season tour of South Africa which starts on Saturday week.
Cricket chairman Bob Platt and his committee reached their decision at a meeting at Headingley yesterday but refused to give details of the shock move.
It is understood, however, that Stemp is being made to stay at home following a dispute with the club which has now been resolved.
Confirming the action taken against Stemp, captain David Byas said: "The decision was reached today by the cricket committee and I have no further comment to make."
Stemp, who was practising at Headingley with his team-mates while the cricket committee were imposing their ban, said: "There was a problem which arose but I am happy that it has since been sorted out and I accept the decision not to take me to South Africa although I am naturally disappointed."
