THREE Keighley-based women cricketers are heading to Lords this weekend - for the finals of the Women's Cricket Association indoor six-a-side tournament.
Claire Atkinson, 15-year-old Laura Spragg, and her younger sister Anna Spragg helped set up the 'Sheffield United' team to take part in the Northern Regional competition to keep in training throughout the winter.
But despite having little experience of the indoor game the became Northern champions with a place in the finals at the home of cricket.
Laura, a previous winner of the Keighley News/Taywood Homes Young Sports Personality competition is also reserve for the England Under-21 tour of South Africa next month.
The Keighley girls won all four games in the Northern qualifying round if the six-a-side competition.
Pete Briggs, who hleps run the team side: "They were nervous to start with, but by the end they looked like experienced indoor cricketers. They had no experience of playing teams of the quality they faced and we were delighted they won."
At Lords they will face Homewood School from Kent, Parkstone Grammar from Dorset and Oxfordshire's Wood Green.
Organiser Steve Robert said: "The event was held at Lords for the first time last year, and the atmosphere was electric. All the staff were superb and they want us to keep coming back - this year's final rounds should be even better."
