Silsden parish council is to hold further discussions on where to keep the town's recently-discovered roll of honour.

The book contains the names of the town's men and women who served in the First World War.

Mystery had surrounded its whereabouts and the parish council appealed through the Keighley News for help in finding the lost book.

But it wasn't missing after all. Following an investigation by parish council vice-chairman Michael Elsmore it was discovered that a similar book held at St James's Church is in fact the 'missing' roll of honour. It is thought the book was given to the church for safe keeping when the former urban district council was disbanded in 1974.

Now the parish council has to decide what to do with the book.

Cllr Ian Smith-Riddiough believes the book should continue to be kept at St James's Church. "It would be very appropriate," he says.

But Cllr Paul Bromley says the religions of those in the book could represent many denominations. "The parish church may not be the right place," he says.

The book's absence only came to light after parish councillors decided the cabinet which they thought held the book should be put back on public display. The cabinet had been gathering dust in the council chamber in the Town Hall for many years.

The book will now be kept in a safe place until a decision is made.
