I've come in for a bit of stick recently over our coverage of Keighley Cougars. On one hand I have been criticised for not giving sufficient coverage to the club. On the other I have been lambasted for dedicating so much space to the club to the detriment of other sports.
It's all a question of balance and judging reader needs, a debate which has been aired in this slot on many occasions.
It can be the case that those who shout the loudest and bombard newspapers with information get more coverage than the less pro-active.
I am absolutely delighted this week to pay tribute to Keighley Rugby Union Club, based at Utley. The Keighlians first team was demoted last year. Inspired by their new team coach, Tim Becker, the club has regained glory and has been promoted back into the North East One league.
Tim praises the efforts of the players - all amateurs - for putting their hearts into the game for the good of Keighley.
On a different sporting front our heartiest congratulations also go out to Steve and Katherine Jones, of Lothersdale, who were among a party of cavers and climbers to descend thousands of feet into Low's Gully, Borneo, known as The Place of the Dead.
They too have brought glory to this district.
Back to the Cougars. A new book is out called 'Daring to Dream' the story of Keighley Cougars by Brian Lund. I gave permission to Brian to use our archives and loaned him some of our photographs.
As Brian points out, in the heady four years of success supporters had enjoyed moments of euphoria that can only be experienced by teams that challenge and upset the odds. Not only that, the club was a role model for other clubs in the Rugby League.
I think we get the balance right. If we don't I know more of you will not be backwards in coming forwards to tell me.
