Aireborough 46 HORNSEA 12
PLAYING enterprising 15 man rugby Aireborough gained a welcome eight try victory in this Yorkshire League Division Three relegation battle.
They raced to a 17 points lead in the first 10 minutes when seasoned stand-off Gary Poole's rapid transfer allowed winger James Williams to show his pace and score two tries in the corner and a penalty try when he was impeded as he was about to complete his hat-trick.
A surprise try by the visitors stung Aireborough momentarily but sustained forward pressure resulted in skipper Richard Fall crashing over from a tap penalty.
The precision throwing of hooker Nigel Craven allowed James Dale and Steve Brewer to dominate the line-outs providing their backs with a string of possession. From a classic midfield break Poole scored the best try of the game which Brewer converted to give Aireborough a 29-7 interval lead.
After the interval Aireborough's domination continued as they camped near the opposition line for long periods and following a rolling maul flanker Martin Hemsley crowned a fine all round performance when he was driven over to score.
James Dale scored his first try of the season when he strode over unopposed for Brewer to make a touchline conversion.
A lack of concentration in Aireborough's midfield allowed their visitors to break out and score an opportunist try. The introduction of replacements Tony and Paul Exley gave the initiative back to the Aireborough pack who then took complete control.
Aireborough's final score came from winger Mike Nield who crossed in the corner.
This performance can give Aireborough the confidence they need to be successful in their remaining league games.
Moortown A 0 Crusaders 26
Crusaders registered their 12th victory of the season with a comfortable win at Moortown. Although taking time to get into their stride they opened their scoring with a fine try from debutant centre Brendan Quinlan who broke through several tackles on his way to the line.
Leading by only five points at half-time Crusaders cut loose in the second-half with tries from Phil Ineson, Chris Clarke and Paul Nightingale with Ineson adding three well struck conversions.
Although having many attacking options Crusaders defended well with full-back Jamie Nelson in the thick of the action. The pick of the forwards was prop Steve Jones while scrum-half Steve Timmie worked hard.
