Guiseley 1
HYDE UNITED 1
GUISELEY manager Bobby Davison was a little disappointed with his side's display against the fast raising Hyde United on Saturday.
Guiseley spurned a number of chances - particularly Simon Parke who had reverted to a midfield role with Paul Bottomley recalled to the centre of defence.
In a scrappy first-half Hyde produced a couple of good efforts when Ged Kimmins shot into the side netting and when Paul Varden struck a good long range shot which was just off target.
Hyde did not allow Guiseley to settle and they disrupted Guiseley's play. Guiseley put too many passes astray in this half and their defenders complained about the low winter sun being in their eyes.
Neil Matthews had a couple of chances heading just wide on one occasion and Lee Elam's corner found Steve Hook whose header was cleared off the line.
In the second-half Parke spurned a great chance from inside the six yard box blazing the ball over the bar.
It was not long though before Guiseley took the lead with an excellent strike by Davison.
Parke spurned another chance when set up by Matthews at the near post and then Elam made an excellent run but failed to deliver the ball at the right moment.
Parke missed another chance at the far post when it seemed easier to score and again Elam took too long in making his mind up and a chance was gone.
Matthews failed to beat the 'keeper to the ball when Neil Parsley threaded through an excellent pass and it always seemed that Hyde would pull back into the game as Guiseley continued to spurn their chances.
This they did in the 86th minute when David Nolan levelled in a crowded penalty area.
HUNTER'S TRIAL
Guiseley's left sided utility player Colin Hunter turned out for Northampton Town Reserves on Monday and has been invited back for a five day trial.
Hunter who has recently returned to the Guiseley side after a long injury was given just 15 minutes of the game but obviously did enough to warrant a trial.
Northampton were reluctant to give him longer in this game as they are pushing for the title and Hunter at that stage was an unknown quantity to them.
l On Saturday they travel to Marine and then on Tuesday night stage the second leg of the President's Cup semi-final. They have a one goal lead over Ashton United after winning the first leg 2-1.
