WHARFEDALE'S billiards teams entertained Leeds No 1 in the Carlac Yorkshire League at the Dragons Leisure Club, Yeadon, with Wharfedale ideally needing a maximum seven points to maintain their title challenge.
Dave Richardson got the home team off to the best possible start defeating Harry Whitby 200-105. Richardson played his best game of the season scoring consistently and potting well.
The good work was continued by Paul Anderton who, with the help of a 56 break, defeated Ron Haigh 200-114.
Steve Crosland then completed the rout defeating Stan Brooke 200-111. Both Anderton and Crosland played effective but unspectacular billiards and both were guilty of some missed opportunities.
Fortunately for Wharfedale Leeds never posed any serious threat and the maximum seven points were secured.
The evening's proceedings were efficiently controllled by Graham Richardson of the Wharfedale Referees' Association .
Wharfedale now lead the table by 13 points as Bradford's game was postponed. Bradford have two matches in hand but the points in the bag could be crucial at the end of the season.
Wharfedale's next match is on Saturday, March 28, at Leeds No 2.
