EFFORTS are under way to resurrect Barnoldswick's heritage centre and rehouse it in the town's library.
The former heritage museum was linked to the Tourist Information Centre when both were based in the old library, on Fernlea Avenue.
It was established, built into an impressive collection and managed by TIC manager Kath Bennett.
But when Pendle Council opened Barnoldswick's new Council Shop last year, it incorporated the Tourist Information Centre in the new premises on Station Road.
Unfortunately there was no room for the heritage display and, despite protests from local people, it was broken up and most of the artifacts returned to their owners.
Assurances were given at that time that the heritage centre would not be allowed to vanish altogether, and now, several months on, moves are finally under way to resurrect it.
A management committee has been established to oversee the project and it is hoped to put the display in the gallery at Barnoldswick's new library.
When Pendle Council's West Craven Area Committee met, Coun David Whipp said the total cost of the project was likely to be around £6,000, and various possible sources of funding were being looked into.
Members resolved in principle to cover any gap in financing the project once other funds were in place.
Coun Whipp commented: "It's good that we've got this back on the rails again as it's been in 'limboland' for too long."
