PROFESSIOAL boxer Peter Judson will fight for the British super-featherweight title in May.
The Keighley fighter meets title holder Charles Shepherd of Carlisle at the Albert Hall in London on May 2.
For years Judson has been calling for a crack at the British title, but holders have regularly side-stepped his challenge, and at one stage it looked as if his opportunity could have gone for ever. A doctor ruled he could not fight following a brain scan, but after further tests the ban was lifted.
"I don't think Shepherd wanted to fight me, but the board made me mandatory challenger, so he had no choice," he said.
After winning the 'Intercontinental' belt he is now eager for the chance to win a Lonsdale Belt.
"They are still the best belts in boxing, but it won't be an easy fight, Shepherd thinks he's Mike Tyson. But I've always been able to stand and take someone on - so I'm confident."
