THE annual meeting of the Ilkley and District Motor Club was held at the club's headquarters, Pool Mills Sports and Social Club, where nearly 60 members received the reports of the officials of the club.
President Ian Waddington of Cookridge, reflected on his first year and was pleased with the success of the club and the individual members who had competed successfully in all aspects of motor sport.
He particularly mentioned Malcolm Rainforth, who had won the ANCC and ANWCC production car trial championships, David Mosey, who had represented England at Autotests and had also been in the display team at the RAC rally show, brothers Jeremy and Paul Nolan, who had won the Skoda trophy, and Stan and Jean Appleton, for their success in the Historic Rally championship for three years in succession.
Thanks were also extended to team captain Graham Hepworth and all those who had competed for the club.
Mr Waddington also thanked the officials of the club for their work over the year, particularly his wife Jo and their children, Brent and Leah for their support.
Secretary Nick Pullan reported that committee meetings had been well attended, with an average attendance of 48.
David Smoley was retiring as treasurer owing to a move to the south with his job, but his presented a compact set of accounts showing a surplus for the year.
Membership secretary Sioned Kitching reported that membership had increased to more than 300 by the end of the year and as subscriptions were to remain at the present level it was hoped to maintain this level of membership.
Motor cycle secretary Maurice Rispin reported that the three motor cycle events were run successfully during the year, with three newly certified clerks of the course, Adrian Tate, Nigel Sykes and Nick Pullan, being responsible for the New Year Trial and the Ilkley Grand National.
Car competitions secretary Karen Spencer reported that from the 28 car events, there were more than 300 competitors and was pleased to see the introduction of a new Sprint and Hill Climb Championship for 1998.
New officers elected by ballot were Henry Kitching as treasurer, Jamie Forrest as Larkspeed League Captain and - to serve on the committee for three years - Wendy Sykes, Sioned Kitching, Karen Spencer and David Taylor.
John Beardmore was elected to serve on the committee for two years, together with Nigel Bromley, Richard Wood and Colin Valentine and re-elected for one year were Henry Carr, Ian Cowling, Graham Hepworth and Iain Tullie.
Other officials re-elected were Ian Waddington (president), Nick Pullan (secretary), Sioned Kitching (membership secretary), Janet Kitching (solicitor and club historian), Messrs Richardson and Lightfoot (auditors), Jane Tindall (company secretary), Karen Spencer (car competitions secretary), Maurice Rispin (motor cycle secretary), Iain Tullie (editor, Ilkley newsletter), Henry Kitching (press secretary), Mr and Mrs Nigel Bromley (newsletter production), and Mr and Mrs Nigel Sykes (awards secretary).
