Guiseley .1
AFTER disappointing displays against Hyde and Radcliffe Borough Guiseley pulled out all the stops in what is a traditionally hard fixture on Merseyside on Saturday.
In the narrow confines of the Marine ground Guiseley always seem to rise to the occasion and have usually got the better of Roly Howard's side.
Guiseley were somewhat in disarray in defence in the early stages with Paul Bottomley and Colin Hogarth arguing with each other but when Bottomley went off with a hamstring strain things settled down with Simon Parke dropping back to give
another good performance in a Guiseley shirt.
The Guiseley bar was rattled in the 10th minute by a brilliant shot on the turn by John Morgan.
In these early stages Peter Atkinson worked hard to nullify Marine's early enthusiasm.
Bottomley made a good block from Chris Price while at the other end Steve Hook's 30 yard free-kick was just over.
When Bottomley pulled up he was replaced by Lee Elam and he and Des Hazel, set to become an international player with St Kitts, intelligently swapped flanks to try and find a way through.
Guiseley took the lead when they were awarded a corner in the 53rd minute.
Lee Elam's kick was missed by everyone as it came across the box - everyone that is
except that man Simon Parke. He was up from defence to bag a vital goal.
Guiseley continued to work hard but they had 'keeper Steve Dickinson to thank for keeping Marine out.
He made some superb saves to deny the Merseysiders and give his side the win their hard work deserved.
Manager Bobby Davison said: 'It was a great performance against Marine, especially after our two previous performances.'
Davison now has a number of problems with Hazel unavailable as he jets off to make his international debut for St Kitts and a number of players injured.
Paul Bottomley, Colin Hunter and Paul Ryan will all be unfit for Saturday's trip to Bosoton while Simon Phillips, substitute in recent games, is unavailable.
Davison said that he would be bringing Jamie Procter in for Des Hazel with Reserve team players Mick Morrell, Rowland Egege and Greg Watts taking the substitutes roles.
Interest in the club is increasing again and away support is building up. So much so that the club are organising a second coach for the trip to Boston on Saturday.
