Paul Jewell writes: It may have been only seven days since we played Tranmere but it feels like seven years. I thought that in the first half we were a bit too apprehensive while Manchester City were fighting for their lives.

We settled down after the first ten minutes but I thought it was an average game at best in the first half. But then in the second half we came out and showed loads of character - and that is the most pleasing thing for me after the last week.

People may have thought the players might feel sorry for themselves but we showed our character.

I am also pleased for the fans because they have probably been thinking 'What's going on?'

But hopefully we can now go on from this.

Edinho has had a hamstring problem on and off for quite a few months and that is why he hasn't figured lately.

Sadly John McGinlay got a knock on his Achilles so he had to come off.

I think the whole team in that second half when attacking towards the Kop were so much better. Blakey came alive as well and was unlucky not to score.

It has been a difficult week for me with all the sleepless nights. But the club is bigger than any player and this club is in good hands.

It doesn't give me any pleasure to see Manchester City fighting relegation but it doesn't make me sad.

It was us last year and I doubt they were shedding any tears for us. Or anyone else for that matter.

I said we needed to make more forward runs from midfield and Pepps did that very well. We got hold of the ball in the second half, which was pleasing. It is something I am trying to drum into every player at this club. If the ball keeps coming back then we will be under pressure.

If it is not held up front then you are struggling.
