Goalscoring hero Nigel Pepper is looking for a strong finish to the season to set Bradford City up for next year.

The Bantams bounced back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over relegation-threatened Manchester City after a superb second-half fightback.

The City midfielder was a key factor in the turnaround with a goal and the decisive pass which set up Edinho's 66th minute winner.

And after the recent week which saw first choice players Eddie Youds, Peter Beagrie and Chris Wilder leave Valley Parade, Pepper is looking for a strong finish.

"It is ultra-important for us to get a good run towards the end of the season to build confidence and finish the season well for the fans.

"Someone has just said to me 'Well that makes you safe now'. We were never thinking like that. We hoped we could get in the play-offs and relegation has never been thought of.

"We are looking up the table not down and although the odds are against the play-offs we want to finish as high as possible.

"This is a great result after the last week. We have lost some key players but the lads who have come in have done exceptionally well despite only having a couple of days with us.

"We were saying before the game we must get going quickly to get the fans on our side.

"They have probably been a bit bewildered by what has gone on this week so the last thing we wanted was the be sloppy and go a couple of goals down. We are grateful to the fans. They got behind us and it gives you an extra yard when you are tired."

Shrugging off praise for himself, Pepper instead paid tribute to new signings Lee Sinnott and Steve McAnespie.

"I think we showed great character after going a goal down and I think we dominated in the second half.

"They had a couple of chances in the second-half but that came through us throwing bodies forward. Otherwise we were the best team.
