A Keighley museum has been chosen for the prestigious national exhibition of the Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.

Odyssey - Adventure in Fibre will be accompanied by workshops, lectures and a unique Viking reconstruction.

The main exhibition runs from next Saturday, June 13, until August 9 at Cliffe Castle Museum and features the best textiles produced by Guild members.

The main gallery at Cliffe Castle will feature the biggest-ever display from the linen collection of the renowned weaver Penelope Porter.

New projects from northern Guilds and more than eight hundred scarves from across the world will also be on show.

Workshops and lectures will be aimed at all levels of ability, from established weavers, dyers and spinners to people wishing to try one of the crafts for the first time.

A Viking historical reconstruction at East Riddlesden Hall on July 18-19 will focus on the invaders' textiles and how they fitted into Viking society.

The exhibition will open on June 13 with a lecture at the Beeches Hotel, in Bradford Road, by leading linen and cotton spinning expert Patricia Baines.

The closing lecture on August 8, at the same venue, will be given by Ed Franquement, a leading authority on textiles of the Andes.

There will be a draw with more than 50 prizes including a tapestry by leading weaver Pat Johns, a Great Yorkshire Show family ticket and a weekend in the Lake District. A suppliers' fair will be held on July 4-5.

Phone Veronica Burningham on 645196 for details of the exhibition and associated events.
