A Keighley angler will be going for glory and a possible 10,000 jackpot in this month's final of the £21,000 Embassy Challenge, the World's biggest pairs event, in Denmark.

The Embassy Challenge, with a £6,000 top prize for the winning pair, is being held on two fish-filled lakes at Jels in south Jutland on Monday, June 15 and Tuesday June 16.

Jack Ferguson, a 49-year-old joiner and furniture manufacturer from Prospect Crescent, Exley Head and his partner, Roger Baker, from Barnby Dun, Doncaster, reached the final after coming fifth in a qualifying round on the New Junction Canal in Doncaster. Ferguson is a former Calder champion and he fishes for Stainforth Preston Innovations who finished runners-up in last year's Embassy Division One National Championship.

Nearly 4,000 anglers entered the tournament and, win or lose, the 80 finalists will enjoy a fantastic all-expenses paid eight-day trip to Denmark.

The party of anglers, sponsors and officials from the National Federation of Anglers will leave on Thursday June 11 for the ferry crossing to the Danish port of Esbjerg.

During their stay, the party will attend two official receptions, one co-hosted by the Jels Fishing Club and the Jels Tourist Board and one given by the Kolding Tourist Board. There will also be a gala dinner and four days fishing (two days practice on June 13 and 14 and the two day grand final on June 15 and 16). The party will arrive back in Harwich on Thursday June 18.

The Embassy Challenge is organised by the National Federation of Anglers.
