Britain's best-known DJ has signed up with a tiny Bradford radio station.

Chris Evans has struck an exclusive deal to broadcast his breakfast show on Bradford Community Broadcasting (BCB).

The ginger-haired media darling will be on air from Monday for the next four weeks.

The station will become the first to broadcast the top-rated Virgin 1215 show on the FM waveband outside London.

Delighted Jonathan Pinfield, of BCB, said the station had clinched the deal after months of negotiations with Virgin.

BCB is a non-profit-making organisation originally set up seven years ago to broadcast highlights of Bradford Festival and is now based at studios in Forster Square.

"As well as providing in-depth coverage of the Bradford Festival the aims of Festival Radio are to provide a range of programmes that are fun, entertaining and lively," said Mr Pinfield.

"Chris Evans ideally fits the bill and as an organisation dedicated to breaking new ground in radio, BCB is delighted to welcome Chris on to our team. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented presenters in radio today."

Evans' Breakfast Show, which was poached by Virgin last year after he left Radio One, is one of the most popular in the country but he is known to be keen to broadcast on the preferred FM waveband outside London. Virgin is currently available only on Medium Wave in the rest of the country.

Mr Pinfield said the deal with Virgin did not affect the running of BCB.

"The organisation is constituted to ensure that we are locally owned and managed and, as a result, our broadcasting will always reflect the unique range of programmes that Bradfordians want to listen to."
