WHEN 500 Yeadon old folk leave the town in a fleet of coaches for their annual outing to the coast on June 20, they will be taking with them a brass band.

For the trip this year, which is to Blackpool, marks the 50th annual outing organised by Yeadon Charities Association.

Yeadon Brass Band are to accompany the old folk and will play them off the coaches in Blackpool, and then when they return to Yeadon in the evening, they will play them down the High Street.

The president, Terry Hawkins, who retires from office after the trip, said: "Because it is our golden jubilee outing we have decided to take the brass band with us. It is a special occasion and a lot of planning has gone into organising the event."

The annual outing costs several thousands of pounds which takes a full year to raise including the annual pantomime in January and numerous other money raising efforts.

A Thanksgiving Service is to be held in Yeadon Town Hall on Sunday June 21 (3pm) when clergy from the various churches in Yeadon will take part.

Michael Rhodes of Yeadon is to succeed Mr Hawkins as president.
