Teenager Paul Deacon gets an immediate chance as the Bulls begin life without Shaun Edwards at Odsal on Sunday.

Former Great Britain ace Edwards is expected to return to London Broncos today after agreeing a three-year deal with the Richard Branson backed outfit.

Bulls chairman Chris Caisley hinted that his club would be looking to recoup the £40,000 they paid London for his services last October, adding: "We are not going to be unreasonable."

Edwards, who is struggling to overcome a sternum injury, will train with his new team-mates today before London set off north for tomorrow's match at Halifax.

"I really enjoyed playing and living in London," said Edwards. "I just want the chance to play my style of football and score tries."

The move opens the door for 18-year-old Deacon to make his debut in a new half-back pairing with Robbie Paul as the champions bid to end a dismal sequence of three successive defeats against bottom club Huddersfield Giants.

In the long term the Bulls may have to look for a more experienced operator to give Deacon more time to learn his trade but coach Matthew Elliott has high hopes for his close season recruit.

"It's an ideal game for him to come into and I have every faith in his ability," said Elliott.

"He has come on tremendously and is a dream to coach. He is very assured and I expect him to handle the step-up very well.

"He doesn't let things get to him and is very determined to be successful."

Goalkicker Deacon, who made a handful of Super League appearances for Oldham last season, has created a big impression with the Academy team this term, so much so that he gained selection for the Emerging England side to face Wales at Widnes on July 19.

The other change to the side which hit rock bottom with a miserable 11-10 defeat at Salford last week is the return of James Lowes after a one match suspension.

"I like writing Jimmy's name down on the teamsheet and I think the week off will have done him good.

"He seems to be running a lot better but his knee still does give him a problem.

"It is an injury to a ligament which holds the cartilage in place. It is just in a most uncomfortable place. He can't do any more damage yet he can't be injected. But it is improving all the time," added Elliott.

Matt Calland was having a final fitness check today on a hamstring injury but Sonny Nickle has been ruled out again with a neck injury and Brian McDermott is very doubtful after a cartilage operation.

"Brian says he is ready but that is Brian for you. He has also had a big week too with the birth of his first child - a son - so I don't think he is ready," explained Elliott.

The Giants have named a starting 13 which includes former Odsal duo Jeff Wittenberg at prop and Paul Cook at centre.
