A jealous Bradford landlady shot herself because she thought her partner was still having a relationship with another woman, an inquest heard.

Julianne Ferencz, 60, died from a single gunshot wound at the Farcliffe Guest House, Farcliffe Terrace, Manningham, only hours after she had an argument with her Hungarian partner Istvan Bognar last August.

She was found on her bed clutching a gun after firing the fatal shot into her chest.

Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded a suicide verdict.

Mr Bognar, who shared an interest in target shooting with Mrs Ferencz, told the hearing that he left his gun without ammunition in a box at her house overnight so that he could take it to the police to hand it in.

But the police later recovered bullets from the house after a search.

Bradford Coroner's Court heard how they had split up five times during their on-off relationship after they met at her 60th birthday party.

"She was extremely jealous," said Mr Bognar. "My life is gone. I loved her - I still do and always will."

Janet Heptonstall told the hearing she had lived with Mr Bognar in Barnsley for three years until 1991 but had remained friends with him even after meeting Mrs Ferencz, who was known to friends as Julie.

"She admitted she was jealous," said Mrs Heptonstall. "She said she was jealous because she did not trust any man after a bad marriage."

Mrs Ferencz had lived in Farcliffe Terrace for more than 30 years after moving to Bradford from Transylvania. She is survived by four children, Eva, Steven, Gabor and Tony.

Friends described her as a hard-working businesswoman who taught folk dancing at the Hungarian Club in Manningham.
