Hot shot Corporal Catherine Raff hopes to hit the target when she takes part in a shooting competition in Canada.

The 18-year-old, of Tufton Street, Silsden, has been selected as part of a 12-strong Great Britain army cadet team and leaves for the six-week trip next week. During the competition she will be shooting against Olympic-standard competitors.

The former South Craven School pupil is very much looking forward to it. "I am a bit nervous but I can't wait to go," she says.

Catherine, who works for a chartered accountant in Leeds, has been an army cadet for two and a half years and is a member of D Company based at the Drill Hall, in Lawkholme Lane, Keighley. She has been shooting for two years.

She recently took part in the County Skill at Arms competition involving five other companies from the Yorkshire north and west region at Strensall, near York. She won the overall champion trophy, the best female and the senior individual award.
