In the summer of 1988 350 youths took part in a week-long football competition at Keighley's Marley playing fields.
Now, ten years later, more than 30,000 children have enjoyed sport and outdoor activities as part of the Keighley Police summer scheme. Up to 4,000 youngsters are expected to join in the three weeks of fun this summer organised by PC Lee Holmes.
The scheme was set up to keep youngsters out of trouble during the school holidays, keep them fit and build closer ties with the town's communities.
This year's summer scheme kicks off on Monday, July 20, with a week-long eight-a-side football tournament at Keighley's Marley Stadium. The following week is devoted to a seven-a-side cricket tournament at Keighley Cricket Club. Both are open to under 14 and under 17 teams. Entries close at 10am on Friday, July 10.
The third week starts with an adventure fun day in the Wharfe Valley, followed on the Tuesday with canoeing at Bolton Abbey, swimming at the Blackburn Waves complex on Wednesday and a visit to the American Adventure Theme Park on Thursday.
Entry to the scheme is free and transport is provided where necessary, but there will be a small charge for the swimming and American Adventure trips.
Youngsters will also get the chance to meet some of the Keighley Cougars players.
Entry forms for football, cricket, and fun day are available from Keighley police station in North Street, local schools, and youth clubs.
