Kevin Stanton had the shock of his life when he emptied his suitcase after returning from holiday this week.
He and his girlfriend Clare Shackleton had enjoyed a sun-soaked two weeks in Barbados when he arrived home in Broster Avenue, Keighley, around 8am on Tuesday.
He unpacked his suitcase and then he says: "I noticed the family cat had climbed into the empty suitcase and was sniffing about."
Kevin went to investigate and found a two-inch long, brown lizard in the case. He rang Clare, who had returned to her home in Sutton and told her what had happened. "I rang the RSPCA but couldn't get through," he says. "Then I rang Cliffe Castle who told me to take it to them."
Cliffe Castle taxidermist Derek Farr believes the animal is of the gecko variety. It is nocturnal and feeds on insects.
"It is only a baby but it could grow up to six inches in length," he says. "We will try to give it a good home and look after it."
