A 'Full Monty' row has broken out over plans to introduce strip shows at a Bradford fun pub.

The licensee at the Drop Kick in Huddersfield Road, Low Moor, has asked Bradford Council to amend the pub's entertainment licence for a no contact striptease show for men and women.

But the move has already caused a stir among some locals and councillors who have sent out a "keep your kit on" message.

Ann Cliff, 75, of nearby Bowler Close, branded the idea as "disgusting."

She said: "I have never set foot into that pub and I never will. I think the idea of strippers in there is disgusting. I would support a petition for this to be stopped."

Licensee Jean Brogden wants to provide a regular show for men on Sunday afternoons and special monthly events which would include a "Full Monty" style strip for women.

Mrs Brogden, who also runs entertainment company Jay-Bee Promotions, said the performers were 'far from crude.'

She said: "I have organised shows like this for years and they are immensely popular."

Entertainment licences issued by Bradford Council to clubs and pubs contain a condition banning striptease shows - but the condition can be varied depending on individual cases.

Council leisure sub-committee chairman Coun Malcolm Slater said: "In general the council's policy is against striptease.

"It established this condition a long time ago and has seen no reason to change it."

A West Yorkshire police spokesman said: "We will be opposing the application."

Neighbour Norman Hyde said he would oppose the proposals. "This is not entertainment and I am sure it will cause a problem around here. Many elderly people live here and I am sure many do not want it," he said.

James Costello of Holborn Court, said: "I am more concerned about what type of person will be attracted to the shows and the noise - it will be horrendous."

But pub manager Alan Warriner said stripping was no longer regarded as seedy since the success of the smash hit film The Full Monty.

And customers at the pub seem to agree.

Colin Smith, of Low Moor, said: "I can't see anything wrong with it."
