Bradford City will be without new skipper Stuart McCall when they take on Lincoln City in the Worthington Cup first round, first leg at Valley Parade tomorrow.
McCall, who re-joined City from Rangers on a free transfer during the summer, hurt his ankle towards the end of Saturday's 2-1 home defeat against Stockport County.
Manager Paul Jewell said: "We don't know the extent of Stuart's injury, but he definitely won't play tomorrow."
McCall's absence is a blow to City is try to bounce back from their opening day defeat.
They want to establish a good position in tomorrow's first leg and will miss his inspirational leadership.
City were sunk by two penalties from Stockport's Tony Dinning on Saturday and new full back Lee Todd believes referee Mike Dean cost Bantams a point.
He was incensed the referee awarded a "dubious" late penalty against him in a match which saw him make his debut against the club he only left a year ago to join Premiership outfit Southampton.
Todd was judged to have bundled his former Stockport team-mate Brett Angell over with three minutes remaining.
Dinning slammed his second penalty of the game past Gary Walsh to sentence new-look City to defeat.
However, Todd was adamant he never touched the County striker, and claims Angell admitted this to him after the game.
He said: " A few of the lads said it could have been a foul on me seconds before the penalty. Then I put my foot there but, as far as I am concerned, I never even touched him."
