Big-hearted donors are being urged to club together to boost the Bradford Millennium Scanner Appeal.

Organisers of the £1 million campaign are looking to raise £50,000 in a new Millennium Club.

Club members are being asked to pledge £16 a month over four years under a covenant scheme enabling the appeal to claim tax back on the payments, generating £1,000 over the period.

Donors will get a permanent reminder of their generosity by getting their names inscribed on a special board in the suite which will house the MRI scanner at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Already £10,000 has been pledged through the scheme for the appeal which is now nearly two-thirds of the way to the target after smashing through the £650,000 barrier.

Non-executive director of Bradford Hospitals NHS Trust, Ali Asghar, who has the coveted 007 number in the club, said it was a great idea.

"As a Bradfordian if I can make my contribution I am happy to do so in this way."

Trust chairman Linda Pollard, who is also a member, urged people to get involved in the initiative.

"We thought this was an ideal way for people to make a significant contribution to the appeal," she said.
