by Margaret Burton, chairman of Keighley's Powerful Whispers Group and a local Methodist preacher

Last week, in the Keighley News, you wrote much better than I can about important issues, Sarah. You are so right.

Young people so often get to the truth and see the way through problems better than older people who see too many difficulties.

Young people have a deep and unselfish concern for the world.

Young people want to work for other people.

And young people are keen to take responsibility.

Two young friends of mine are starting engineering degrees quite soon, not to make money - although I hope they will not be short of what they need - but out of an urge to help deprived and poverty stricken countries.

As a local preacher in the Methodist Church, I am helped and supported by chldren and young people who think, plan and take part in leading worship with me.

It's not just Christians either.

Many of my young Moslem friends in Keighley can express their problems, their faith, their urge to work for a better world, and try to put it into action.

Three years ago, research sponsored by all the churches led to the publication of the report, Powerful Whispers, which described many problems in Keighley.

Keighley Powerful Whispers group was then formed to bring together all ages, groups, cultures and interests, not only to talk and write but to attempt to help where there are people in need.

Look for notices and join us to have your say.

We need to whisper, write and work together for an active and caring community and a better, peaceful world.
