Not that long ago television and local radio were seen as a great threat to newspapers. Much more recently the harbingers of doom were saying the Internet was an even bigger threat to newspapers. It was predicted that the newspaper-buying public would abandon papers in favour of the electronic screen at home or work. News can been seen as it happens 24 hours a day, seven days a week, onto a computer desktop. Well, it just

hasn't happened like that.

The newspaper industry has embraced the new

technology with open arms. The Keighley News has a firm foot in the door of this electronic medium, as we explain on page 12.

One point should be stressed. Your Keighley News will still be printed - ink on paper - as usual each week, packed with our normal content.

What the electronic version means is that friends and relatives living anywhere in the world can now keep in touch with local news. For example, we know of

servicemen and women who are visiting our sites to read the news, especially about Keighley Cougars.

Looking at it another way, we can now bring you news from all four corners of the world as well as from the bottom of your street. There's a whole host of other goodies on the site.

The site will keep on developing as the weeks go by and soon I hope to be in a position where ex-Keighley

people can send messages to relatives which will not only be on the web-site but also printed in the paper.

It is a one-stop shop for information.
