Keighley & District Travel's new breed of low-floor easy-access bus was unveiled to local businessmen at Keighley Business Forum's lunch meeting on Friday.

The new bus is proving especially popular with the elderly, disabled people and mothers with prams, and the viewing was arranged by KBF officer Graham Mitchell, who has special responsibility for transport matters.

Mr Mitchell says: "The forum has welcomed the introduction of the new bus. If we are to attract greater numbers of the public onto buses they must be reliable, attractive, inexpensive, environmentally friendly, but above all easily accessible to those who do not have the advantage of personal car transport."

KBF member Liam McDonagh, environmental manager with the Bradford & Bingley Building Society, was particularly interested in the new vehicle. He says: "The new high specification buses will be of benefit to the local community and should lead to an increase in the use of public transport.

"I will be happy to promote their use to our staff as part of our strategy to reduce the number of private vehicles used for commuting.
