LEGAL proceedings are being taken against the organisers of car boot sales at Bramhope.
This week Leeds City Council moved for an injunction against the organisers of the sales being held at sites at Kings Road and Carlton Crossroads.
The car boot sales have become a talking point for Bramhope Parish Councillors, who fear that they are generating additional traffic in areas where road safety is already a concern.
Signs had appeared around Leeds, advertising the sales as taking place every weekend and it was feared that by varying the sites, the organisers were using a loophole in rules over how many sales could take place per year.
The latest meeting saw the parish council resolve to write to Leeds City Council over the two sites in a bid to improve road safety.
Chairman John Mordy said: "I think it is worthwhile writing to Leeds to say we have serious reservations about the use of the Carlton Crossroads site.
"It is one of the most dangerous crossroads in the county and we don't think car boot sales should be held on that site because of road safety.
"Secondly, we are very unhappy about the Kings Road. I don't think we are happy about either site because of the traffic considerations."
He added: "We understand that people are moving around from one site to another. If they have got several sites they can keep the whole thing going all year."
Coun Mordy said that there were also worries about extra traffic using Kings Road as a route to the park and ride scheme at Alwoodley in Leeds, signposted in the village.
He said: "More traffic is being generated with the park and ride. That is directing traffic up Kings Road.
"Whether it is going to work or not is another matter. I think we have got long term problems."
A spokesman for Leeds City Council said: "We are aware that an unauthorised car boot sale has been operating at this site for some time.
"These activities are illegal as they are in breach of the council's market rights and permission has not been granted either by our markets division or planning department.
"We commenced legal proceedings in pursuit of an injunction against the organisers yesterday."
