Soccer-mad Bracken Bank youngsters have been presented with an award in memory of a woman who helped their community.
The Sue Belcher Trophy was named in honour of Bradford council's former Keighley area co-ordinator, who died in a Lake District climbing accident last year. She helped Bracken Bank residents set up several groups and build a community centre, which has also been named after her. She worked closely with estate volunteers Lynn Smith and Sharon Devlin, who run the Bracken Bank Juniors Football Club. The club currently has teams for under eights, 11s and 12s and plans to start a fourth team in the new season. Awards were presented to each team during a recent evening at Ingrow Cons-ervative Club, attended by 70 youngsters and 40 parents.
The Sue Belcher Trophy was given to individual winners Ricky Smith (under-eights), Lyle Rich-mond (under-11s) and Liam Jeffrey (under-12s). The trophy was presented by current area co-ordinator Patrick Lawton, Mrs Belcher's former deputy, on behalf of Keighley Area Panel which is the council's local arm.
Lynn thanked the panel and councillors for their support and asked that anyone in Keighley who wanted to play for the teams, particularly girls, should phone her on 214791.
