Angry Steeton woman Iris Dawson says she was kept awake by a tractor spreading silage in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Iris, of Williams Road, claims she heard the tractor - belonging to Lyon House Farm, in Lyon Lane, Eastburn - spreading silage at around 1am.

But Lyon House Farm workers say it was necessary due to the recent weather and apologise for the incovenience.

Iris, 72, says when she woke up later on Sunday the state of the road was 'absolutely appalling' because it was 'covered in muck'.

She adds: "I could hear the tractor going for about a couple of hours. This kind of thing should not go on because it's far too late for tractors to be driving around.

"I rang Bradford council's highways department and they said they would send someone round to the farm."

A spokesman at the farm responds: "We were trying to get the silage in before the weather broke again. The dirt came off the tractor and trailer's wheels. We don't like travelling about in the middle of the night but due to the bad weather we had no choice.

"First thing the next day we went out and cleared up the road. We apologise for the inconvenience, but it was unavoidable. We'd also like to thank those residents who were pleased with our sweeping up and for the cups of tea!"
