Little Neil McGregor, whose battle against leukaemia inspired fund-raisers to arrange a dream trip to EuroDisney, has died at the age of six.

Neil, of Allerton, suffered from acute myeloid leukaemia, which affects just 60 children throughout the country each year.

His devastated mother Jacqueline Barnes now wants to thank, through the Telegraph & Argus, everyone who helped towards the appeal which bought him two dream holidays, brightening up what was left of his short life.

"Thanks to the appeal, he had a brilliant time at EuroDisney," said his auntie, Angela Burke.

"He really did enjoy himself and at one point his illness seemed to have gone into remission. But it came back - he was given a bone marrow transplant using bone marrow from a donor, but he relapsed six weeks afterwards."

Fundraisers from three pubs - the Bell Dean, Allerton; the Crow's Nest, Allerton; and the Fairweather Green WMC - together raised enough money to send Neil to EuroDisney near Paris in October and a second holiday to Scotland in June of this year. The funds for that came from members of the Fairweather Green WMC who together raised £1,000 through snooker and domino marathons.

Sheila Rodgers, from the club said: "Neil was a little love. He thoroughly enjoyed the bit of life he had left. His family sent a lovely postcard from Scotland - it was a place he particularly wanted to go to."

Neil died at Martin House Children's Hospice, Boston Spa. His funeral will take place at Scholemoor Crematorium, Bradford, on Friday at 1.30pm.
