A doctor who helped free a Skipton man trapped under his 45-ton upturned crane, has spoken about the fight to free him.
Doctors, paramedics, firemen, police and ambulance crews battled for four hours to release David Worthington, 58, who was trapped by his legs underneath the crane in a field at Eccleston, Chorley, Lanc-ashire, on Wednesday.
Dr Bob Bennett of Medalert, a medical charity based in Chorley made up of doctors and volunteers, said: "It was a tremendous team effort and was a demonstration of how successfully the different disciplines can work together."
Mr Worthington of North Parade, Skipton, who is satisfactory in the Royal Preston Hospital, spoke to his wife Pauline on his mobile as telling her: "I've had a bit of an accident".
He was given an intravenous infusion and pain killers as fire crews using cutting gear to remove huge chunks of metal from the crane.
"We didn't really know what damage Mr Worthington's legs had suffered because we couldn't see them. But he was talking throughout the ordeal and eventually when we removed him we gave him very strong pain killers. I was at the hospital later in the day when he was in surgery," he said.
