Thousands of pounds are to be spent on improvements to Silsden and Steeton railway station. Railtrack will carry out repairs to the platform and improvements to the drainage in the car park. The stone wall adjacent to platform two will also be renewed in work costing £32,000. The footpath will also be resurfaced.
The project is part of a £1 billion regeneration scheme which will see improvements at nearly all of the country's 2,500 stations. Railtrack believes that if it is to attract more passengers onto the railways, it is vital that stations provide a clean and well maintained environment which enhances the experience of rail travel.
Keighley MP Ann Cryer is hoping to visit the station in the near future to view the improvements.
The improvements follow the announcement that a new through service for Skipton to London Kings Cross is starting from September 28.
