Oakworth take on Carleton at Gargrave in the Wynn Cup final, on Sunday.
Last year's runners-up, Oakworth are hoping to go one better this time. Since joining the League they have appeared in four finals, winning once in 1995. A talented team lead by Michael Scarborough, in the absence of the injured Nigel Lockley, they are currently second in the First Division.
Scarborough is a match winner in his own right with bat or ball or both. Steve Lilley is capable of taking any attack apart whilst Steve Hartley provides the steadying influence. John Crossley, Tim Brunskill and Graham Rankin can all do damage with the bat. Tim Walsh, who joined from Bradley at the beginning of the season, is a very encouraging and capable keeper. Scarborough and Rankin are the opening attack with Jeff Inman adding the guile with his leg spin.
Carleton will not be overawed, have beaten the Cure Hill side once and having the better of a rain affected draw. They are a talented side. Martin Windle and Steve Carling usually get the side off to a good start which skipper Ian Bell, Robert Walker, Graham Summersgill and Lee Barrett can all build on. Throw in Craig Wear who is similar in style to Steve Lilley and you have a potent force. Whilst Peter Wrathmell can 'bat a bit' it is his bowling, together with Windle and Wear, that can swing the match.
They have possibly the youngest ever player to appear in a final, 14 year old Andrew Strickland is their wicket keeper and a fine prospect. The match, which starts at 1.30pm, is sponsored by Dacre Son & Hartley.
