A fire officer has praised the efforts of a man who tried to tackle a blaze in his car.
Keighley fire station sub-officer Eddie Presland says Kevin Brooke and his father acted quickly after Kevin noticed his Audi 80 car was on fire in Canberra Drive, Cross Roads, at around 2.40am on Tuesday. The pair managed to get a garden hose to fight the blaze.
"They did a good job with the hose reel," says sub-officer Presland. "They burned all the oxygen away inside the vehicle."
However, Kevin suffered burns to his hand after a flash-back occurred when he opened the car door to investigate the fire further.
Firefighters attending the scene used a new product called Burnshield to treat his injuries. Kevin was taken to Airedale Hospital where he was later released after treatment.
Faulty wiring under the dashboard is believed to have caused the fire.
