Leading officials of the British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) were sensationally thrown out of office yesterday.
Member leagues voted 25-14 at a special general meeting in Huddersfield in favour of a no-confidence motion in chairman Mike Morrissey and vice-chairman Stuart Sheard. Both were removed from office with immediate effect and Jackie Reid and Harold Swift elected in their places as acting officials.
The no-confidence vote was called in the wake of widespread dissent over the leading officials' style of management and, in particular, the decision to sack long-serving chief executive Maurice Oldroyd, whose appeal is due to be heard on September 3.
