Cricket: Yorkshire gave a surprise debut against Glamorgan at Cardiff today to 20-year-old Pudsey St Lawrence all-rounder Gareth Clough - and then lost two wickets with only 16 scored after they had been put in to bat.
The right-hand bat and medium pace bowler was the late choice ahead of left-arm spinner Richard Stemp.
Clough had originally travelled to Cardiff as 12th man but when Yorkshire saw how green the pitch looked they thought he would be able to help bolster their weakened pace attack.
Clough, a product of the Yorkshire Academy, played in just one limited overs match for Yorkshire Seconds last season but he has been a regular and successful performer this time.
Glamorgan won the toss on an overcast morning which threatened rain and Owen Parkin struck with the last ball of the first over, but the pitch was not to blame for the dismissal.
Michael Vaughan, who had been the first Yorkshire batsman to reach 1,000 runs during the Roses game, missed a straight delivery and was lbw before he had scored.
The score was unchanged when Matthew Wood also departed for a duck.
