A "wonderful" man who spent four years as a prisoner of war jumped to his death at a beauty spot, an inquest heard.
Brian Newsome Booth was shot down over Europe during the Second World War while serving with the RAF.
In recent years he suffered from depression and last month was found dead at the Cow and Calf rocks near Ilkley.
Inside his parked car nearby was an "extremely loving'' note he had written to his wife, Patricia.
In a statement read to the Bradford inquest, Mrs Booth described her husband as a wonderful and kind man in every way.
She said that he had threatened in the past to jump off the rocks or throw himself in the river.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Booth, 78, of Bolling Road, Ben Rhydding, Ilkley, died from multiple injuries.
Recording a suicide verdict, coroner Roger Whittaker said he was satisfied that Mr Booth had intended to take his own life.
