POLICE were yesterday still searching for the body of newlywed Barry Collett, who is believed to have drowned in the River Wharfe while out walking with his bride, Lynn.
Her body was recovered from Addingham Weir on Sunday after being spotted by a member of the public. A post mortem examination revealed she had drowned.
North Yorkshire police have had to turn away volunteer searchers after a request for walkers and anglers on the river to keep their eyes open was misinterpreted by members of the public.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire police was anxious to point out they did not want volunteers to help in the search for the body.
The couple, who were on honeymoon in the Yorkshire Dales, went missing after setting out from their rented cottage at Appletreewick to go for a walk by the river.
Police underwater search teams were called in after what was believed to be a man's body was spotted floating in the Strid, a notorious stretch of the river at Bolton Abbey.
However, it is uncertain exactly how they came to be in the river or where along the stretch between Appletreewick and Bolton Abbey they could have fallen in.
Mrs Collett's parents Ernest and Valerie Spreadborough identified their daughter's body at Airedale General Hospital, Steeton, near Keighley, after travelling from their home in Hampshire.
