A group of Girl Guides who had not seen each other for 40 years got together this week to talk about old times. They met up at Currer Laithe Farm at Long Lee, the home of former Guide leader Jean Brown and her sister Margaret. All were members of the 5th Keighley Temple Street Guides who took part in a trek on eight remote Hebridean islands in 1958.
The five who joined the Brown sisters were Judith Unwin (nee Fox), of Silsden; Margaret Sharpe (nee Neville), of Steeton; Margaret Dale (nee Toothill), known as 'Toots', from Saddleworth, near Old-ham in Lancashire; Janet Beard (nee Chadwick), of Pudsey; and Ann Chapman, who travelled from Aviemore in Scotland. The gathering brought back happy memories. All spoke of the warmth they had encountered in Scotland and the pleasure to be under Jean's leadership.
